Bags and shoes are the accessories that define the outfit. You don't necessarily need expensive clothes to look chic. Having the right bags and shoes would elevate your whole look instantly.
As it is summer season, I wanted to get a pair of designer's sandal and interestingly, Hermès offers the cheapest sandal among the designer world and its style is exactly what I want too - chic, simple and elegant.
While many blogs and Youtube reviews focus on their oran sandal, I wasn't able to find much on the heeled version of this summer staple, the Oasis. That's why I want to share my review on Oasis sandal with you.
The reviews for Oran sandals are mixed. Some say it will cause blisters and it is not comfy to wear coming with a huge price tag. Some say they did not experience the blisters and find it comfortable to wear. Reading these reviews does not really help me determine if I should invest in this piece or not so I went to Hermès to try on the sandals myself and at last bought myself an Oasis in brown, (they call it Gold Piqûres Écrues).
Oasis or Oran?
I've gone to the Hermès store to try on both Oran and Oasis. I personally like the Oasis (with a 5 cm heel) more because it just adds that little point of elegance when you are wearing a heel. I reckoned I stand taller and felt more elegant, while the Oran sandal without any heels felt completely flat on the floor and could be not comfortable to walk in since the sole is flat. If you are aiming for a flat flip flop feeling style then Oran is for you. If not, Oasis is perfect for a little classy touch to your summer outfit.
I do feel like if I spend so much money on some shoes, I do want it to make me feel chic not just casual. Again, it's up to personal preference!
Do they come true to size?
Yes. You can opt for the size you regularly wear. I did size down half a size since the sales associate says the leather will stretch out over time so I guess I would rather have it a little tight and be fitting later than having it being loose after it's stretched out and if it's stretched out it may slip off my feet!
I suggest you going to the store and test out different size before you buy it in store or online.
Are they comfortable?
Honestly speaking, you cannot really test out how new shoes feel in store until you buy and have a little walk in it. My first walk was not little, I spent hours in my new sandals and around 2 hours later the H shaped leather did rub against my feet and made it red and painful. After that day I did get some blisters.
However, it didn't hurt my feet the second and third time. (Second time I wore them for a short distance and third time I just put one bandaid to the area where it could cause blister, just in case!) I guess it needed some time to 'break in" into the shoes and stretch the leather a bit. So I do recommend you wearing the sandals for a short period of time for the first few times and be prepared to get some bandaid to avoid blisters. It will be okay after the break in period.
Overall speaking, once you get over the break in period, they are comfortable to wear in!
How do they look with different outfit?
Having seen this iconic classic sandal worn by many influencers and celebrities, it is safe to say the style of this sandal is easy to match with any kind of outfit! It goes with beach dresses for a laid back southern French vacation vibe, or make your t-shirt and jeans outfit look classy and preppy. Seriously, it goes with anything for its design is simple and timelessly chic.
The iconic H cut of the sandal is famous among the fashion insiders. So if you know it's from Hermès , you would actually notice a lot of people are wearing them on the street!
If you are just starting out, opt for the neutral color like brown and white. These colors are the most versatile in pairing with different outfit.
Are they worth the money?
I honestly love how these sandals look and make me feel. It's simple yet effortlessly chic. Although the price is high, ($5800 HKD/ US $750) it is still worth the money as it has great quality and can match with any style!
Tips: I bought my pairs online at their Hermès official website as it is difficult to get a pair in store. (They are sold out really quickly and they don't have a waitlist) So i recommend you trying the size in store and order online if you are an impatient buyer and run out of luck in getting the color and size you want in store!
